Arvid Joseph Anderson was born November 27, 1919, to Carl J. and Minnie (Brenden) Anderson in Normania Townshp, rural Cottonwood, Minnesota. Arvid was baptized and confirmed at St. Lucas Lutheran Church. He attended school in Normania Township. Arvid helped on the family farm until he was inducted into the U.S. Army on May 26, 1942. He served with the 1462nd Engineer Boat Maintenance Company in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. During his service he received numerous medals and ribbons. He was discharged December 30, 1945. After returning home, he worked on the farm in Normania Township. Arvid worked many years with township road maintenance and retired in 1984 into Cottonwood. Arvid enjoyed traveling to visit relatives in Colorado and Arizona during the winter months. He also enjoyed reunions with his Army friends in Pennsylvania and Nebraska. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, bowling, and golfing. He was a member of the Cottonwood American Legion Post #503 and the V.F.W. Mongeau-Tholen Post #742 of Marshall. Arvid passed away on Saturday, December 12, 1992, in the Clara City Community Nursing Home at the age of 73. Arvid is survived by brothers, Harold and his wife, Millie of Boulder, Colorado, and Melvin and his wife, Erma of Cottonwood, Minnesota; sister, Bernice Sanders and her husband, Larry of Phoenix, Arizona; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
