Arthur Selmar Johnson was born January 30, 1905, in Granite Falls, Minnesota. He was the son of Gabriel and Sophie (Mikelson) Johnson. He grew up in the Granite Falls area where his father worked as a railroad man. He married Leona Hartliep from Rochester, Minnesota, and was engaged in farming for 42 years until his death. He farmed in the Granite Falls and Montevideo areas. In 1934 Arthur received Jesus Christ into his life and was baptized in Lac qui Parle Lake. He served in past years as board member of the Clarkfield Assembly of God. He was preceded in death by a daughter, June Ardith, who passed away as an infant in 1934. Also preceding him were his parents; three sisters: Esther Peterson, Clara Syring, and Mable Syring; six brothers: Arnold, George, Melvin, Otto, Charles and William. Survivors are his wife, Leona, of Clarkfield; three sons: Kenneth of Isanti, Minnesota, Vernon of DeGraff, Minnesota, and James of Granite Falls; two daughters: Virginia (Mrs. Richard Pratt) of Mankato, Minnesota, and Arda (Mrs. LeRoy Nelsen) of Pillager, Minnesota; and 14 grandchildren.
