Arthur Edward Paul Sommerfeld was born July 26, 1908 at Montevideo, Minnesota to parents Wilhelm and Ernestina (Zahn) Sommerfeld. He was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Montevideo on August 23, 1908 and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, Omro Township, Boyd, Minnesota on July 15, 1923. Arthur married Adeline Amalia Hartfiel at Zion Lutheran Church of Tyro Township, Boyd, on January 21, 1935. Two children were born to this union: Opal and David. Art and Adeline farmed near Boyd from 1942-1982. At that time they moved to their home in Montevideo. They were members of Zion Lutheran of Tyro Township for many years and following their move to Montevideo became members of St. Paul Lutheran. Art passed away at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital on Friday afternoon, September 29, 1995, at the age of 87 years, 2 months and 3 days. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Adeline and their children: Opal and Donald Lynne of Bloomington and David and Margo Sommerfeld of Dell Rapids, South Dakota. He is also survived by grandchildren Jeffrey (and Angela) Lynne, Joy (and Scott) Swanson, and Nathan and Mathew Sommerfeld and great grandchildren Christopher, Daniel, and Alexander Lynne and Jonathan, Shelby and Brenna Swanson. Also, brothers Henry, Ervin and George and sister Myrtle Rogge. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Christ, and granddaughter Michelle Dawn Lynne. Blessed be his memory.
