Obituary

Funeral services were held Friday, June 28, 1974, at Clarkfield Lutheran Church for Arthur S. Forbord who passed away June 25, 1974, while on a business trip in the Cities. Rev. Gordon Trelstad officiated at the 10:30 a.m. services. Mary Smith was at the organ and Loren Norgaard was soloist. Casket Bearers were Russ Anderson, William Bruflat, Leo Flattum, Glenn Reichert, Darwin Van Stelten, and Elmer Walls. Final Resting place is in Clarkfield Lutheran Cemetery. Arthur S. Forbord, Jr., was born in Clarkfield, Minnesota, on August 2, 1922, to Arthur S. Forbord, Sr. and Helen Weatheral Forbord. He was baptized and confirmed in the Hazel Run Lutheran Church and attended the Hanley Falls School. On January 28, 1940, he joined the Marine Corps where he spent six years in active duty. He served in Guadacanal, New Zealand, Solomon Islands and Saipan, Marianas Island where he was shot down. He received the purple heart, plus other numerous medals. On February 11, 1945, Art was united in marriage to Alida Lee in the Clarkfield Lutheran Church with Rev. J.E.H. Akre officiating. They lived in New Jersey and California until his discharge in 1946 when they returned to Clarkfield and have resided since. He was employed by the J.H. Lynner Co. for 20 years. Two children were born to Art and Alida: Mrs. Sheryll Meyer of Wayzata, Minnesota, and Gary Forbord of Willmar, Minnesota. Besides his family, those left to mourn include three grandchildren: Kristen and Matthew Meyer and Monica Forbord; three sisters and one brother: Mrs. Rebecca Paisley of Longville, Minnesota, Mrs. Bessie Wester of Ogilvie, Minnesota, Mrs. Martha Husby of St Paul, Minnesota, and David of Tullahoma, Tennessee; besides a host of nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins; and father-in-law, Iver Lee. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one brother. Art was active in many activities including the reestablishing of the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, served as Cub Scout leader and scoutmaster. He served on church boards, Civic and Commerce, Legion, Council, and served as Mayor until the last election when he preferred not to run again. An ardent fireman, Art was, at the time of his death, Fire Chief and President of the West Central Fire Association. Arrangements by Lynner Funeral Home Since 1891 Clarkfield Minnesota
