Obituary

Arthur R. Benson was born March 21, 1899, near Echo, in Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, the son of Knute and Johanna (Saure) Benson. He was the youngest of seven children and was baptized by Rev. Erick Erickson. In 1904, his family moved to a farm five miles south and six and a quarter west of Clarkfield where he has lived since. He was confirmed by Rev. Eastvold at Israel Church. On June 21st, 1927, he was united in marriage to Christine Constance Berg, daughter of Carl and Caroline (Opheim) Berg. To this union, six children were born, five daughters and one son. They farmed in Tyro Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. Arthur loved the church and took an active part, being a church officer for many years. He was always of much concern over the spiritual welfare of his family. Daily devotions were a "must" in the home and were usually given by Arthur. Home was always pleasant and cozy with his good nature and his place can never be filled. His cheery remarks kept lonesomeness from coming where ever he was. He did all he could and would never spare anything for his family. On February 1st, 1950, he underwent an operation, from which it seemed he had successfully recovered. He seemed to be so well when on February 23rd about 7:45 a.m. he suffered what proved to be a fatal heart attack and was rushed to the Clarkfield Hospital where he died ten minutes later. He was 50 years, eleven months and two days old when death took him. Preceding Arthur in death were his brother, Ole, casualty of the First World War, and his father and mother, Knute and Johanna Benson. To mourn his sudden death are his wife, Christine and six children: Joan, Carl, Constance, Helen, Clarice and Darlene; three brothers and two sisters: Bennie of Montevideo and Hannah (Mrs. Carl Rysdahl), Robert, Olga and John, all of the Clarkfield community. Also, a cousin, Peter Havnegjerde of Montana survives. Blessed be his memory. In Loving Memory of Arthur Benson So kind a husband and father, We loved you so very much. You left us so sudden, not even goodbye, Oh, but for a word, or your brow again to touch. But you trusted in Jesus, that our comfort shall be. When the loss seems too heavy to bear Your prayers we always will cherish You left us all in His care. This is not goodbye forever Soon we'll meet you again over there No suffering, no pain, no tears, more shall flow, The Heavenly Bliss together we'll share.
