Arly Ordell Swanson was born February 13, 1918, in Swede Prairie Township of Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, to parents Oscar and Annie (Lindstrom) Swanson. He was the oldest of four siblings. He was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Arly attended Country School in rural Clarkfield, Minnesota. Arly and Marian Edith Brandt were married on September 24, 1938, at Clarkfield, Minnesota. This marriage was blessed with two children: Larry and Karen. Arly and Marian loved the farm and remained on their farm until January 2, 1981, when they moved to Granite Falls, Minnesota. Marian passed away on March 3, 1994, but Arly remained in their home on 15th Street in Granite Falls except for visits with his family. He passed away at his home on Tuesday evening, July 25, 2000, as the result of the tornado at the age of 82 years, 5 months and 13 days. He is survived by his children: Karen (and husband Cecil) Lade of Zimmerman, Minnesota, and son Larry of Gill, Colorado; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and 12-step great grandchildren; and sisters-in-law: Mrs. Wally Anderson and Mrs. Gifford Swanson. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marian, one sister and two brothers. Arly was a quiet man, but very family orientated. He loved his family dearly! He was a member of the Granite Falls Lutheran Church. He loved baseball and 'Uffda jokes', but his true love was his wife and his family. He will be deeply missed.
