Arlene Beatrice (Mauland) Fjerkenstad was born on June 6, 1927, to Raynold and Gurina (Gunderson) Mauland at Clarkfield, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She graduated from Clarkfield High School and the Minnesota School of Business. In 1949, she wed Melburne Fjerkenstad of Boyd, Minnesota. They farmed together for 52 years southwest of Boyd. To this union five children were born: Jerry, Jim, Sally, Randy and Marcy. Arlene was active in church organizations, Legion Auxiliary of Boyd, Chatter Clatter Homemakers Group and various organizations. She enjoyed gardening, playing cards, reading and traveling. Arlene passed away at her home on Friday evening, July 12, 2002, at the age of 75 years, 1 month, and 6 days. She is survived by her husband, Melburne; and her children and families: Jerry (and Susana di Raima) of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Jim (and Brian Jones) of San Diego, California, Sally (and David) Stratmoen of Boyd, Randy (and Julie Simonson) of Boyd, and Marcy (and Jon) Bork of Graceville, Minnesota. She is also survived by her grandchildren and great grandchildren and one brother: Arvid (and Diane) Mauland of Minneapolis; and sisters-in-law Ruth Hanson, Arlene (and Virgil) Hegna, and Joyce Fjerkenstad all of Montevideo, Minnesota, Betty (Brandt) Forest of Redwood Falls, Minnesota; and brother-in-law Arnold Wiegers of Dawson, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Donald Mauland. Blessed be her memory.
