Arlen R. Risa was born November 5, 1924, to Michel L. and Anna (Hovestein) Risa at their home in rural Hazel Run, Minnesota. He was baptized at Bethlehem Lutheran Church and confirmed at the Hazel Run Lutheran Church by Rev. A. Haugland in 1938. He entered the Marine Corps January 23, 1945, and was honorably discharged December 14, 1946. On June 25, 1949, he was united in marriage to Doris J. Erickson of Hanley Falls, Minnesota. To this union five children were born: Dean, Kristine, Michael, Arvid and Annette. He entered the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital October 23 and passed away with a terminal illness Tuesday morning, December 13, 1978, at the age of 54 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Elmer. He is survived by his wife Doris, and their children, Dean and wife Becky of Worthington, Minnesota, Kristine and her husband Anthony Kurley, Jr. of Crown Point, Indiana, Michael and Arvid of Clarkfield, Minnesota, and Annette and her husband Terry Viessman of Aberdeen, South Dakota. Other survivors include one brother, Olaf of Hazel Run; sisters: Amy Bellamy and Thelma Risa of Wheaton, Illinois, Mildred Sandstrom of Ely, Minnesota, Helen Batdorf of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Ethel Russell of Brookfield, Wisconsin; mother-in-law, Mrs. Gunda Erickson of Hanley Falls; four brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
