Arden Norman
Morland
March 24, 1919 – October 19, 1995
Arden Norman Morland was born in Lisbon Township to Norwegian Immigrants Lena (Blaness) and Nels Morland on March 24, 1919. He was baptized and confirmed at Clarkfield Lutheran where he was a life-long member. He attended the Clarkfield public and parochial schools. In May of 1942 he was inducted into the army. He served in the Amphibian Engineers and attained the rank of Technician 3rd Grade. He served in the Southwest Pacific from September 1943 until December 1945. In June 1945 he was honored with the "Silver Star" citation for gallantry in action in Borneo. He was discharged in December 1945. On June 18, 1943 he was united in marriage to Doris Cornelius at Fort Ord, Monterey, California. To this union three children were born: Kathleen, Dennis, and Duane. Arden farmed for 43 years. He served on the Soil Conservation Board for Yellow Medicine County for six years and as an ASCS Committee man of Friendship Township for many years. He had served as a trustee and treasurer of Clarkfield Lutheran. He retired in 1981 but enjoyed helping his sons with farm work until his health began to fail in 1994. He passed away on Thursday, October 19, 1995. He is survived by his wife, Doris; daughter, Kathleen and Larry Rolfs, Tom and Bill of Hardwick, Minnesota: sons, Dennis of Clarkfield, Duane and Jane, Rebecca, Nathan and Stefanie of Clarkfield. He is also survived by sisters Norma (Bruce Frank) of LeSueur, Minnesota; Delores (Harold Sievers) of Palm Springs, California; brother Harry (Margaret) Morland of Marshall, Minnesota; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Chester Cornelius, Ruby Cornelius, Armenia Frichtel, Alvin Cornelius, Janice and Gerald Kietzmann, Virgil and Vernice Cornelius, Ralph Frank and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Gladys Frank, and his sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor and Floyd Hovdesven. He loved his church, family, relatives and friends. He will be greatly missed. Blessed be his memory.
