IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ardell Marion
(Cole) Redetzke
January 4, 1917 – August 4, 2014
Ardell Marion (Cole) Redetzke was born January 4, 1917, the fourth child of Albert and Johanna (Loe) Cole, in Sandnes Township, Yellow Medicine County. She was baptized and confirmed at Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church in Hanley Falls, Minnesota. She graduated from Hanley Falls High School with the Class of 1934 and then attended the Minnesota School of Business. She worked in bookkeeping at the Hollywood Candy Company in Minneapolis and the Agricultural Office (ASC) in Clarkfield. Ardell was united in marriage to Galen Elroy Redetzke, her high school sweetheart, on September 15, 1940, at the Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church. A son and a daughter were born to this union. Galen and Ardell farmed north of Hanley Falls until their retirement in 1976 when they moved to Hanley Falls. Over the years Ardell was a devoted, supportive wife and a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. She was a lifelong member of Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church. She sang in the choir and taught Sunday school, both for over fifty years. Over the years she was active in WELCA, bible study circles, and sang with the musical sextet, The Harmonettes. Ardell was a 4-H leader, a member of the Northside Birthday Club, and other community groups as well. She worked alongside her husband Galen, assisting him as Curator of the Minnesota Machinery Museum located in Hanley Falls. Ardell was proud of her Norwegian heritage making lefsa and kringla and became a prolific maker of hardanger handiwork. Ardell loved her family, cherished her faith, and treasured her friends and her community. Ardell passed away on Monday, August 4, 2014, at the Bethesda Pleasant View Nursing Home, Willmar, Minnesota, at the age of 97 years. She is survived by her children: Keith Redetzke of El Paso, Texas, and Karen Olberg of Willmar; grandchildren: Ann (Luis) Millán, Dan (Katie) Olberg and Kari (Brian) Ingemann; great grandchildren: Michael, Andrew, and Elisa Millán; Jack, Emma, and Matthew Olberg; and Anna, Emily, and William Ingemann; one sister, Edith Timm of Bend, Oregon; nieces and nephews.
