Obituary

Anton O. Kompelien was born January 18, 1881, at the old homestead in Westerheim Township, Lyon County, Minnesota, the son of Ole and Siri (Thon) Kompelien. He was baptized and confirmed into Saint Lucas Lutheran Church by Rev. Romstad. He grew to manhood on the home farm and continued farming except for attending Madison Lutheran Academy two winters and one term at Mankato Business College and a period spent in Minneota, Minnesota, where he clerked in a store. In 1907 he was united in marriage with Margaret Hofteig and they made their home on the farm he purchased at that time. Mrs. Kompelien passed away February 12, 1953. To their union ten children were born, one girl dying in infancy. Those surviving are: Marjorie (Mrs. Irvin Anderson) of Mountain Lake, Minnesota, Thelma (Mrs. Naurise Nesset) of Palatine, Illinois, Sidney of Minneota, Minnesota, Owen of Palatine, Illinois, June (Mrs. Marvin Belling) of Cottonwood, Minnesota, Dagney (Mrs. Bob Gniffke) of Hayward, Minnesota, Robert of St. Paul, Minnesota, Erling and Ramona at home. Mr. Kompelien passed away Tuesday, November 3, 1953, after a long illness, at Clarkfield Community Hospital, Clarkfield, Minnesota, at the age of 72 years. There are 13 grandchildren. He is also survived by five brothers: Chris and Thorvald of Porter, Minnesota, Theodore of Cottonwood, Minnesota, and Otto and Orvin of Minneota, Minnesota; three sisters: Mrs. Bertha Severson of Clarkfield, Minnesota, Mrs. Mary Anderson of Goodridge, Minnesota, and Clara Martinson of Cottonwood, Minnesota; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Kompelien was a genial friend and helpful neighbor. His interests in his community and church were evidenced by his many years of unselfish service on school and township boards and committees. He was a trustee of St. Lucas Church for many years.
