Obituary

Anton Johnson was born June 16, 1895, at Hanley Falls, Minnesota. His parents were Amund and Gunhild (Iverson) Johnson. He received his education at Hanley Falls and at the Globe Business College inSt. Paul, Minnesota, and at a School of Mechanics also in St. Paul. For a few years he farmed at their home place together with his brothers Edwin and Gilbert. In 1917 he, together with his parents and brothers moved to Boyd, Minnesota, where the three brothers entered the automobile business. The same year Anton enlisted in the Navy in World War I and served until the end of the war. He was discharged with the rating of First Class Mechanic. He returned to the automobile business. In 1921, he was united in marriage to Thea Ree and they established their home in Boyd. In 1942 he was again called by the government to either go into the Navy or into essential defense work and he chose the latter, serving three and one half years at the New Brighton Arsenal as inspector of Amunition. Again he returned to the automobile business and continued until his retirement from business after which he served for several years as a Viewer on highways and County Ditches. He served for many years as trustee of his church and served for many years on the school board as well as being president of the Boyd Village Council and other duties in the Village. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and one nephew, Wallace Edwin Johnson. He is survived by his wife and sister Mattie Lukken and several nieces and nephews.
