Annie Marie Fagerlie was born on November 25, 1885, in Clarkfield, Minnesota, the daughter of John E. and Belle (Brakke) Afdem. She was baptized by Rev. R.K. Fjelstad and confirmed by Rev. O.C. Farseth in the Clarkfield Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran Church. She attended school in Clarkfield and completed her high school education at Windom Institute in Montevideo, Minnesota. She taught school for four years in Edgerton, Hanley Falls, and Clarkfield. On June 30, 1910, she was married to Ingebret F. Fagerlie by Rev. O.T. Storaasli. Mrs. Fagerlie was a lifelong member of Clarkfield Lutheran Church, a member of Clarkfield High School's first freshman class, Hospital Auxiliary, W.C.T.U., Friendship Garden Club, County Historical Society, and served as president of the Clarkfield Lutheran Ladies Aid. In her later years, Mrs. Fagerlie very much enjoyed her role of historian. She researched and wrote the history of the Clarkfield school, history of the Ladies Aid, and contributed information to the County Historical Society. Up to the day she became ill, Mrs. Fagerlie kept up her many active interests by attending church and circle meetings, gardening, and traveling. She enjoyed visiting with her relatives and friends in Clarkfield and with her children. Winters were spent reading, sewing, doing fine embroidery and crocheting. She was sensitive to the needs of others and worked very hard raising a family of eight children for which they have the deepest appreciation. She was preceded in death by her husband, I.F. Fagerlie, her parents, one sister, and three brothers. She is survived by four sons: Julian and Conrad of Clarkfield, Fritjof of Beirut, Lebanon, Valdemar of St. Paul; four daughters: Anna of Macomb, Illinois, Dorothy (Mrs. William Hopper) of Rockford, Illinois, Doris (Mrs. Orrin Halvorson) of Vientiane, Laos, Margaret (Mrs. Clifford Wold) of Bovey, Minnesota; one sister, Gladys (Mrs. Arnold Mikelson) of Clarkfield; and 10 grandchildren: Mary Jo Fagerlie, William, Jr., John and Thomas Hopper, Thekla Fagerlie, Karen and Clifford, Jr. Wold, Dorothy Ann and Frederick Halvorson, and Cleo Fagerlie.
