IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Anna Mathilda
(Peterson) Hanson
October 29, 1901 – September 27, 1996
Anna Mathilda Hanson was born October 29, 1901 in Swede Prairie Township, Yellow Medicine County. Minnesota to Peter and Emma (Svenson) Peterson. She was baptized and confirmed at Swede Home Lutheran Church and along with her brothers and sisters attended Country School District 86. She was united in marriage to M. Roy Hanson on September 8, 1922. Three children were born to this union, namely, Doris, Arvey, and Marilyn. As a lifelong Clarkfield area resident, Anna will be remembered for her strong attachments to church and community service. She was active in the Clarkfield Lutheran Church Ladies Aid (WELCA). the Clarkfield American Legion Auxiliary, the Lisbon Garden Club, Hospital and Care Center Auxiliary, and she gave countless hours as an RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) member in the Care Center for bingo, special events or whenever the Activities Department needed an extra hand. Anna was an avid (and fast!) crocheter and card player. She also enjoyed traveling, making many bus trips around this country and Canada, as well as trips to Europe, including the Scandinavian countries on two occasions. She made her last big trip when she was about 84, bragging about walking faster than most of the younger tourists. However, her memory had started to fail and she realized that was her last trip. Anna and Roy owned and operated a grain and livestock farm a mile north of Clarkfield on the place homesteaded by Roy's grandfather, Rasmus. In 1960 they moved into Clarkfield with the farm being run by son Arvey and now by grandson, Allen. They enjoyed entertaining and on July 4th or other special occasions, the yard and house would be full of people. At threshing time you would usually find atleast two of her sisters helping out. The 'Hanson children' also enjoyed entertaining on the farm, whether it was a 4-H group, school group, or just friends after sleighriding and Anna was so good about fixing hot chicken sandwiches or other goodies for "the kids". Anna passed away peacefully at the Clarkfield Care Center on Friday, September 27, 1996 at the age of 94 years, 11 months, and 30 days. She is survived by her three children: Doris (and George) Hagedon of Covington, Virginia; Arvey (and Diana) of Clarkfield and Marilyn (and Bob) Hanson of Clarkfield. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson. She is also survived by her brother Ludvig of the Clarkfield Care Center and sister, Ethel Corbett, of Atascadero, California and two sisters-in-law: Jennie (Mrs. Alfred) Peterson of the Clarkfield Care Center and lona (Mrs. Winfred) Peterson of rural Clarkfield and many, many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Roy, in 1966; and her brothers, Axel, Oscar, Alfred, Fredolph, and Winfred; and by her sisters Bettie, Esther, Edith, Emma, Hulda, and Amalie.
