Anna Gurina Mauland, longtime resident of the area, passed away at the Clarkfield Community Hospital December 27, 1974. Gurina was born November 19, 1897, to parents Simon and Agnette (Eide) Gunderson, on the family farm four miles south of Clarkfield. She was a member of the Clarkfield Lutheran Church all her life. Her mother passed away at the age of 49 years, so Gurina helped care for the younger children. On June 16, 1926, she was united in marriage to Reynold Mauland. To this union three children were born: Arlene (Mrs. Melburne Fjerkenstad) of Boyd, Minnesota, Donald of Clarkfield, and Arvid of Minneapolis. Ray and Gurina farmed the Gunderson homestead from 1927 until the spring of 1964 when they retired. They moved to Clarkfield during the spring of 1965. Gurina had been confined to her bed by illness for the last six and one-half years, but her courageous spirit and faith kept her mind active until the last days. She succumbed to an attack of influenza. She was an active member of church activities, also a member of Friendship Mission Circle which served the noon lunch following the service. She was a member of the local chapter of Eastern Star and a member of the Clarkfield legion Auxiliary. She is survived by her husband; children; in-laws; nine grandchildren; three brothers: Ben and Alvin of Minneapolis, and Ludwig of Mena, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Sylvia (Mrs. Clarence Winson); and one grandson, Dirk Mauland. IN MEMORY OF MRS.
