Obituary

Andrew Tyler Olien was born on March 18, 1892, the son of Andrew and Mary (Tyler) Olien, in Clarkfield, Minnesota. He attended the local schools, the Minnesota School of Business and the University of Minnesota. On September 6, 1914, he was united in marriage with Nicoline Cornelius. They started their married life farming in the Clarkfield community, spent five years in Sebeka, Minnesota, then returned to Clarkfield where they continued their farming operation until 1946. At that time, Andrew joined the Weed and Seed Division of the State Department of Agriculture, working in Yellow Medicine County for three years, then moved to Waseca as a district supervisor for 11 years. Upon his retirement, they moved back to Clarkfield where they have resided since 1964. He was a member of the Clarkfield Lutheran Church, Masonic Lodge, the Eastern Star, and the Lions Club. He passed away September 26, 1968, at the age of 76, at the Clarkfield Hospital after a prolonged illness. He is survived by his wife, Nicoline, one son, Lyle, of Montevideo, two daughters: Mary Ann (Mrs. John Josephson) of Minneota, and Clarice of Minneapolis. Four grandchildren: Norma (Mrs. Gerald Koenen) of Long Beach, Mississippi, and Janet, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Olien, Richard and Karen, son and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Josephson. Great grandchildren are Peter and Angela, children of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Koenen. He is also survived by one brother, Charles of Hibbing, Minnesota, and four sisters: Ida (Mrs. Chesbro) of Minneapolis, Alice (Mrs. Floyd Swanson) of Fairmont, Minnesota, Violet (Mrs. Donald Marti) of Minneapolis, and Clara (Mrs. Willard Kernkamp) of Minneapolis.
