Andrew L. Johnson was born January 31, 1862, in Andalen, Norway. He came to the United States in 1882 and for a year and a half worked on farms in Mower County. He also worked as a driver and lumber worker in Wisconsin. He passed away on Monday, December 14, 1953, at Granite Falls, Minnesota, at the age of 91 years, 10 months and 13 days. In 1884, Mr. Johnson came to Yellow Medicine County and worked on the section for two years and then bought a section of land in Friendship Township. He was clerk of school district number 60 for 15 years and supervisor for four years. Mr. Johnson was a member of the Norwegian Lutheran Church of Clarkfield. He was married October 26th, 1896, at Granite Falls to Amalia Iverson, a native of Brown County, Minnesota. To this marriage four children were born: John and Alfred, who preceded him in death, Oscar of Granite Falls and a daughter, Clara (Mrs. Hans J. Larson) of Park Rapids, Minnesota. His wife also preceded him in death. Surviving are three grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. For the past eleven years he has made his home in Granite Falls with the M.M. Sandbergs.
