Amanda Kise Hovdesven was born January 21, 1890, to Johan and Jorine (Nelson Arne) Kise in Normania Township. She was baptized by Rev. Knute Thorstenson and confirmed by Rev. Romstad. She attended school in Cottonwood and graduated with the class of 1910. On September 30, 1911, she was united in marriage with Albert Hovdesven at Cottonwood. They farmed in Vallers Township of Lyon County until 1947 when they moved to Clarkfield. They have four children, all of whom survive: Almira (Mrs. Orley Miller), Josie (Mrs. Jewell Haaland), Floyd, and Inez (Mrs. Thurman Kompelien). She suffered a stroke in May and passed away at the Clarkfield Care Center on November 18, 1976, at the age of 86. Mr. and Mrs. Hovdesven celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in September. Amanda was a lifelong member of St. Lucas A.L.C.W. and was active in W.C.T.U., Garden Club and Senior Citizens. Survivors include her husband; four children; nine grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; two brothers: Dr. Joseph Kise of Moorhead and Axel Kise of St. Paul. Mrs. Hovdesven was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Alma and Clara (Mrs. Edward Lovsness); three brothers: Neil, Oscar and John Kise; and one grandson, Burton Kompelien.
