Alvina Mae Anderson was born on November 24, 1948, in Montevideo, Minnesota, to Dale and Inez Stringer. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. After graduating from Clarkfield High School in 1967, she attended Southwest State University where she received her B. A. in Elementary Education. The rest of her life was devoted to her two passions: family and education. In 1977, her teaching career began in Canby, Minnesota. She started teaching at H. A. Hagg Elementary School in Clarkfield, Minnesota, in 1980. In 26 years of teaching, Alvina touched the lives of over 500 children. She married Bruce Anderson on June 8, 1974. She loved her children with all of her heart, daughters Alecia Malek and her husband Ty of Highwood, Montana, Sarah Manthey and her husband Darren of Centerville, Minnesota, and son Jonathan Anderson and fiance Amy Gunderson. Her two grandchildren, Darren and Adrian Malek, brought joy to her heart and a smile to her face. She is also survived by her mother, Inez Stringer of Myrtle Creek, Oregon; three sisters, Lynn Citrowske and husband Ron of St. Leo, Minnesota, Rayann Pederson of Sutherlin, Oregon, and Nancee Mason of Corvalis, Oregon; her brother Dale Stringer Jr. and wife Roxie of Clarkfield; her father and mother-in-law, Irving and Harriet Anderson of Clarkfield; brother-in-law Brian Anderson of Santa Cruz, California; 11 nieces and nephews; and five great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Dale Stringer Sr.; grandmother Martha Allickson; grandparents Harland and Alwina Stringer; and niece Amy Jo Stringer. Her 10 year battle with cancer ended when she peacefully passed away at her home on May 3, 2003.
