Alvina P. (Mohr) Eckhardt was born on April 7, 1899 in South Dakota to parents Peter and Catherine (Lye) Mohr. She was united in marriage to Alfred Eckhardt in Boyd, Minnesota on May 5, 1921. They resided in Boyd and operated 'Eckhardt's Store' along with Alfred's father, Fred, and brother Oscar. "Vena" lived in her home in Boyd until January of 1993 when she went to live with her daughter, Jean in Minneapolis. In May of 1993 she suffered a stroke and since has been a resident at Redeemer Residence in South Minneapolis. Vena passed away on August 19, 1997 at the age of 98 years, 3 months, and 16 days. She is survived by two daughters Fern (Edward) Niles, Riverton, WY and Jean Lee of Minneapolis, MN. Also surviving is Dennis (Lesley) Olerud, Haines, AK, who made his home with Alfred and Vena after the death of his mother in 1939; and grandchildren Scott (Chris) Lee of St. Louis Park, MN, Nancy (Charles) Ginsburg of California, Steven Niles, Wyoming, and Eric and Melissa Olerud and great grandchildren Matt Lee and Jennifer Ginsburg. She is also survived by one sister, Lillian Davis of Vermillion, SD, two sisters-in-law, Neva Johnson and Lou Ella Noris, La Hobra, CA and one brother-in-law, Wildred (Bernice) Eckhardt of Storden, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred, in 1979, son-in-law Don Lee in 1991, her parents, seven brothers and five sisters.
