Alvina Anna Marie Engel was born September 22, 1884, at Vinton in Benton County, Iowa, to parents Joseph and Friedrika (Krueger) Lorenz. She passed away July 4, 1978, at the Clarkfield Community Hospital, Clarkfield, Minnesota, at the age of 93 years. Her early adult life was spent as a seamstress in and around Spencer, Iowa. On March 21, 1906, she was united in marriage to Carl W. Engel at Jasper, Minnesota. After farming for several years at Hardwick, Verdi, and Kenneth, they bought a farm east of Hanley Falls in 1914 where they lived until moving into Hanley Falls in the fall of 1946. She was a member of the Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church. Survivors include three sons: Floyd, Stanley, and Vernon, all of Hanley Falls; one sister, Jessie (Mrs. Leonard Ryan) of Scandia, Minnesota; 13 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl, in 1957; one son, Earle; six brothers and two sisters. In Loving Memory of Mrs. Carl W.
