Alvina Louise
(Koepp) Steinke
April 30, 1883 – February 7, 1970
Mrs. Alvina Louise Steinke was born April 30, 1883, at Columbus, Wisconsin, the daughter of Julius and Augusta (Klatt) Koepp. She came with her parents as a child of four years to the area, making the trip by box car, along with their personal belongings including a few cattle, breaking plow, dog and a few simple household items. As a young girl, she herded cattle on the open prairie and witnessed many grass or prairie fires. Indians had roamed the area and buffalo were present. She was baptized May 1, 1883, in the Lutheran faith by Rev. A.F. Siegler. She was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Tyro Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, on April 3, 1898, by Rev. August Hillger. On November 7, 1904, she was united in marriage to Otto R. Steinke at the Zion Lutheran Church by Rev. August Hillger, the same pastor by whom she was confirmed. This union was blessed with four children: Esther, Arnold, Gerhard and Erna. Mrs. Steinke passed away Saturday, February 7, 1970, at the Dawson Hospital at the age of 86 years. She is survived by her children: Esther, who made her home with her parents and cared for them, Arnold, who resides on the home farm with his wife Edna, and Gerhard and his wife Ida of Lake Lillian, Minnesota. Also surviving are seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; sister, Ida (Mrs. George Miller) of Galva, Iowa; and brother, Herman Koepp of Boyd, Minnesota. Preceding her in death were her parents; daughter, Erna in 1922; husband, Otto in 1963; half sister, Mrs. Emma Dalueg in 1909; brother, Leo Koepp in 1960; and sister, Bertha Laechelt in 1969.
