Mr. Alvin Oral Oraas was born on July 1, 1900, in Normania Township of Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, to parents Aslak and Julia (Rikke) Oraas. He was one of seven siblings. He was baptized and confirmed at the Spring Creek Lutheran Church of Normania Township where he was a lifetime member. 'Oral' attended the Morris School of Agriculture, Morris, Minnesota, and was in the United States Navy and served during World War II. He returned home following the war and farmed until he retired and moved to Clarkfield, Minnesota. He lived with his sister, Grace, and her husband Peder Bakken. Oral entered the Clarkfield Care Center in 1991 and has been a resident since then. He passed away at the Care Center on Thursday, May 4, 2000, at the age of 99 years, 10 months, and 4 days. He is survived by a sister-in-law Avenal Oraas and Grand Niece Sharin (and husband Sidney) Sarfaty and their children Donavan and Demetrius, all of Temecula, California. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Walter, Ernest, Telford, Marvin, Myrtle and Grace. Oral was a very thoughtful, quiet, and kind person. He loved to dance and was a ballroom dancer. He also liked working with wood and enjoyed photography. Blessed be his memory.
