Alvin R. Johnson was born on July 19, 1911, at Marcus, Iowa, to parents Olaf and Emma (Pierson) Johnson. He was baptized on August 8, 1914, into the Lutheran faith at Lake Benton, Minnesota, and confirmed on June 28, 1970, at Zion Lutheran Church of Tyro Township, Boyd, Minnesota. Alvin was united in marriage to Hazel M. Lathrop on September 28, 1940, at Lake Benton. They made their home near Lake Benton, farming, for a number of years. Following a move to Tracy, Minnesota, Alvin was employed at the Tracy Creamery and after a job transfer, they relocated in the Boyd-Clarkfield area, where Alvin was employed at AMPI in Clarkfield, until he retired in 1976. Alvin and Hazel moved to Granite Falls, Minnesota, in 1981, where he enjoyed his retirement years with gardening, making lawn ornaments, feeding the birds and squirrels and visiting with friends and family. He passed away on Saturday, April 10, 1999, at Granite Falls Municipal Hospital at the age of 87 years, 8 months, and 23 days. Alvin is survived by his wife of 58 years, Hazel, of Granite Falls; daughter, Marie (and Gary) Holtan and grandchildren: Jennifer and James of Granite Falls; son, Dale (and Collette) Johnson and grandchildren Tyler and Noah of Hutchinson, Minnesota. He is survived by one sister, Ethel Smith of Verdi, Minnesota, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and one sister. He will be lovingly remembered.
