Alpha H. Spande Hanson was born to Christian R. and Isabelle (Rolfshus) Spande, September 2, 1886, at Mabel, Fillmore County, Minnesota. She was baptized by Rev. Exie at Sheiv Lutheran Church. At the age of 11 she moved with her parents to Toronto, South Dakota, and was confirmed by Rev. Hinderacker. She was married to Tommie O. Hanson on January 28, 1914, by Rev. G.A. Moana at Toronto. They moved to the Boyd and Clarkfield area where they were engaged in farming and store business. Five children were born: Clifford, Milo, Idella (Mrs. Darrell Nikolaisen), Allan and Elaine. Alpha passed away at the Madison Lutheran Home, Madison, Minnesota, on December 26, 1976, at the age of 90. Survivors include a son, Milo; a daughter, Idella; five grandchildren: Mrs. John (Kathleen) Loe, Mrs. Iran (Sandra) Sagal, Rita, Clifford and Rebecca Hanson; and five great grandchildren: Meredith and David Loe, Christine, Kari and Shira Sagal; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; one sister; her husband (June 28, 1960); one daughter; and two sons.
