Alpha Gladys Eckhardt was born to Alfin and Julia (Otterson) Nelson on February 27, 1904, in Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church of Boyd, Minnesota, attended rural school and then graduated from Boyd High School. She went on to St. Cloud Teachers College and received her teaching certificate. She taught at Clearwater, Breckenridge and Montevideo Schools. On December 24, 1933, she married Oscar L. Eckhardt of Boyd, where she was active in church and community affairs all her life. Alpha is survived by her husband, Oscar; son, Frederick Allan, Boyd; daughter, Louise Joan (and Gary) Carpentier, Golden Valley, Minnesota; sister, Mrs. Cora Hein, Bellingham, Washington. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Trudy (Mrs. Gehard) Dahl, Jessie (Mrs. Bennie) Ness, and Cora Nelson; and two brothers, Ervin Nelson and C. Howard Nelson. Mrs. Eckhardt was taken to the Johnson Memorial Hospital of Dawson, Minnesota, Sunday, August 7, 1983, where she passed away. IN MEMORY OF MRS.
