IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alma Therese
(Galow) Silver
September 6, 1897 – September 6, 1897
Alma Therese (Galow) Silver was born on September 6, 1897, to Fredrick and Adeline (Jaeck) Galow in Omro Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. She was received into the Kingdom of God through Baptism. In April of 1911, she was confirmed by Pastor E. G. Fritz at St. John's Church of Omro Township. When Alma was 20 months old, and her sister, Hulda, not quite three years, their young mother passed away. Grandpa and Grandma Jaeck took the two children to their home and cared for them. They attended St. John's Day School, where the Word of God was taught daily, for one hour, and five hours of public school subjects. Alma finished the 8th grade there. Alma married Dr. V. L. Silver, D.D.S. of Clarkfield, Minnesota, on June 5, 1920. She assisted her husband at his Dental Office besides housekeeping, garden work, etc. Alma was very musical, a natural talent, playing piano, organ, mandolin, guitar, and violin without teacher's assistance. As she often remarked: "I am a self-made person." She was an active Augustana Church member, holding several different offices. Her true joy was teaching Bible Class, which she did for years. She also enjoyed singing. She sang many solos and duets and often accompanied herself with her guitar. After the death of her husband in 1980, she lived alone in their home for many years. Alma entered the Clarkfield Care Center in July of 1996, where she passed away on Saturday morning, November 6, 1999, at the age of 102 years and two months.
