Alice Jeanette Kirkeby was born November 9, 1916, at the farm near Boyd, Minnesota, to Anna and Ole Husby. She was baptized in the United St. Petri Church by Pastor Eid and confirmed in Trinity Lutheran Church of Boyd. She graduated from Boyd High School and Montevideo Teachers Training Department. On December 30, 1938, she was united in marriage to Harry M. Kirkeby. To this union one daughter, Louisa Ann was born. Alice taught in country schools in Lac qui Parle, Lyon, and Yellow Medicine Counties. After Louisa was born, she started teaching sixth grade in Clarkfield and continued up until her retirement, totalling 23 years. Alice was nominated for "Teacher of the Year" which she cherished. She enjoyed her family and friends and numerous sports, which included basketball, kittenball, and bowling. After retiring, Alice entered the world of volunteerism. She kept active at the Care Center, Meals- on-Wheels, the Mealsite, Bloodmobile, etc. Alice was a RSVP member who took pride in her tasks. Through her teaching and volunteer work, Alice touched the lives of many. Alice was an active member of the Clarkfield Lutheran Church Women and the American Legion Auxiliary. After a brief fight with cancer, Alice passed away July 29, 1993, at the age of 76 at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital. Alice is survived by her daughter, Louisa and husband, Danny of Tallahassee, Florida; three grandchildren: Tina, Tasha, and Troy; her fiance, Ed Johnson; sisters-in-law: Elise Husby and Lyle Husby. She was preceded in death by her parents: Ole and Anna Husby; husband: Harry; brothers: Elmer, Art, and Orville; sister: Esther. Blessed be the memory of Alice to all of us.
