Alice Clarabell (Hagan) Cliffgard was born August 5, 1905, to Peder M. and Carrie (Erickson) Hagan at home near Hazel Run, Minnesota. She was the youngest of four children. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Hauge church of rural Hazel Run. Alice attended school in District #28 and Clarkfield and Morris Normal School. Following school she lived and worked for her brother Edgar in Wisconsin, then with her sister, Minnie, in Washington, DC. She returned home when her father became ill. Following the death of her father, Alice and her mother moved to Clarkfield. Alice and Lawrence Cliffgard were married on August 19, 1951. Lawrence had been her boss when she worked as a cook in Cliff's Café. Alice has done much traveling in the United States and other countries. She enjoyed crafts, cooking and baking. She was very active in her church, Hospital Auxiliary, quilting group and Garden Club. She had been living in the Clarkfield Care Center since 2001. She passed away at the Care Center on Saturday, March 8, 2008, at the age of 102 years, 7 months and 3 days. She is survived by two nieces, Erma Odden Iverson and Alice Odden Vick of Echo, Minnesota; two nephews Stanton Hagan of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Ronald Hagan of Reno, Nevada; several great nieces and nephews and special friend, Bill Weinhold and family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lawrence, brother Edgar and twin sisters Marion and Minnie. Alice was an interesting delightful aunt and dear friend to many. Blessed be her memory.
