Alfred Cornelius Jacobson was born Decemmber 16, 1884, to Olaf and Annie (Halvorson) Jacobson near Hanley Falls, Normania Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. He was baptized in the Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church at Hanley Falls and confirmed at the Hazel Run Lutheran Church by Rev. John Salhus. On June 5, 1907, he was married to Annie Thorhaug. To this union, six children were born, three sons and three daughters. Mr. Jacobson was active in church and community affairs. He served on the local school board for eighteen years and was president for seven years. He served on the creamery board for 25 years; as Friendship Township assessor for ten years; served on the first government farm program; and served his Spring Creek Church as treasurer for 25 years. Alfred passed away at the Clarkfield Community Hospital, Tuesday morning, October 26, 1971, following a heart attack. He had reached the age of 86 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie, March 12, 1966, and one son, Myron. Surviving him are his five children, namely: Mrs. Irene Kise, Mrs. Alice Herrick, Milton Jacobson, Camilla (Mrs. Leonard Peterson), all of Clarkfield, and Wesley L. Jacobson of Elk Grove Village, Illinois; 17 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; one brother, Herbert Jacobson of Montevideo, Minnesota; two sisters: Mrs. Marie Mickelson of Sauk Centre, Minnesota, and Clara (Mrs. James Stevens) of Hanley Falls; beside a host of nieces and nephews. In 1963, Mr. and Mrs. Jacobson retired from farming and purchased their home in Clarkfield. He will be sadly missed by his children, brother, two sisters and other relatives and friends.
