IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Alfred Martin
Hawkinson
August 27, 1889 – August 12, 1913
Alfred M. Hawkinson was born August 27, 1889, at Boyd, Minnesota, the fourth child of the family of seven of Hans Jergon and Pauline (Anderson) Hawkinson, a pioneer couple who came to the area in a covered wagon. Alfred attended school in rural Boyd and later graduated from Boyd High School. Losing his father when only fourteen, he worked hard to learn the barber trade and then practiced a year and a half in Boyd before going to Minneota, Minnesota, in 1911. There he became acquainted with Rachel Ness, who became his wife on August 12, 1913. This union was blessed with five children. The family resided on the present farm in Swede Prairie Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, all but the first year of Alfred's married life, which was spent on the farm adjacent to it. He was active in the community, serving many years on the school board as clerk, his town board as supervisor for sixteen years, and on the intial government program committees. His health had been failing for a number of years and on September 7, 1966, at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital, he passed to his eternal reward at the age of 77 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Henry and Chris; one sister, Olga (Mrs. Chris Belsaas). Left to mourn his memory are his wife, Rachel; five children: Howard of Minneapolis, Sylvie at home, Arlo of Cottonwood, Minnesota, Russell of Clarkfield, Minnesota, and Fern (Mrs. David Landmark) of Montevideo, Minnesota; eleven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two sisters: Helga (Mrs. J.O. Saltness) and Amanda (Mrs. Halvor Bourne), both of Montevideo, Minnesota; and one brother, Selmer of Wells, Minnesota. In Memory Of ALFRED M.
