Obituary

Alfred Arthur Elmer was born March 25, 1908, in Lucas Township, Lyon County, Minnesota, where he resided all his life. The family operated the Cottonwood Dairy for 22 years. Alfred farmed the same place where his parents held their wedding reception in 1899 and during those years he cared for his father, Edward P. Elmer and his blind mother, Clara (Jaenish) Elmer, who was confined to her bed for nearly three years. Following their departure in 1958 and 1963, respectively, he retired from farming in 1969 and assisted his sister and her husband at The Clarkfield Advocate office until their retirement in 1973. Mr. Elmer passed away suddenly from an apparent heart attack on Thursday, February 15, 1979, at the home of his niece in Shoreview, Minnesota, at the age of 71 years. He is survived by his sisters: Mildred (Mrs. Erling B. Jurgenson) of Clarkfield, Minnesota, Ella (Mrs. Ed Harrington) of Denver, Colorado; brothers: Clarence of Evansville, Minnesota, and Ervin of Phoenix, Arizona; several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters: Gladys (Mrs. Chester Bishop), Dorothy and Edna. IN MEMORY OF ALFRED A.
