Alfred Frederick Eckhardt was born August 9, 1899, at Bancroft, Iowa, to Fred and Minnie (Fenske) Eckhardt. He passed away on Saturday evening, March 17, 1979, at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital at the age of 79 years. In his early childhood the family moved to the Boyd community. On March 28, 1915, he was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Tyro Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. On May 5, 1921, he was united in marriage to Alvina "Vena" Mohr in Boyd. They were married 57 years. Alfred, with his father and brother Oscar, were in the grocery and meat processing business until the time of his retirement in 1965. He is survived by his wife, Vena; daughter and son-in-law, Fern and Edward Niles of Riverton, Wyoming; daughter and son-in-law, Jean and Donald Lee of Minneapolis; foster son and wife, Dennels and Lesley Olerud of Golden, Colorado; grandchildren: Scott Lee of Minneapolis, Nancy Niles Bickett of San Pedro, California, Steven Niles of Riverton, Wyoming, Erik and Milissa Olerud of Golden, Colorado; one great grandson, Matthew Lee of Minneapolis; sisters: Ailma Peterson of Long Beach, California, Else Drew, Louella Morris, Neva Johnson of Lattabra, California; brothers: Oscaar of Boyd and Wilfred of Storden.
