Alfhild Irene
(Anderson) Friberg
February 16, 1921 – May 22, 1967
Alfhild Irene Friberg was born at Clarkfield, Minnesota, February 16, 1921, the daughter of Ingvald M. and Julia (Satre) Anderson. She was baptized by Rev. O.T. Storaasli, March 20, 1921, at the Clarkfield Lutheran Church and confirmed April 28, 1935, by J.E.H. Akre at the same church. She attended public and parochial school in Clarkfield, graduating with the class of 1938. The following year she took a course in bookkeeping and typing. For a time she was a switchboard operator at the local telephone office. She also lived in Seattle, Washington, for about two years, where she had a Civil Service job. Alfhild returned to Minnesota and worked for Northwest Airlines and Holt Motor and Stevens Buick for a time. When her father was stricken with paralysis in 1948, she came home to the farm to help care for him. October 18, 1952, Alfhild and Harold Friberg were married at the Clarkfield Lutheran Church. For several years she worked at the Farmers & Merchants State Bank. When the new Clarkfield Lutheran Church was being built she took care of some of the finances of the building program. For a time she served as secretary of the local ALCW organization. She also taught Sunday School. In February of this past year her health began failing and she sought medical aid at Rochester, Minnesota. April 27, 1967, she entered St. Mary's Hospital and had surgery May 2, 1967. She was moved to Rice Hospital, Willmar, Minnesota, where she passed away Monday, May 22, 1967. Her husband, Harold, and sister, Joan Nelson, were with her all that time. She was preceded in death by her father in 1951 and a nephew, Dean Anderson in 1942. She will be greatly missed by her husband, Harold; two sons: James, 12, and Alan, 10; her mother, Mrs. Julia Anderson; two brothers: Irving and Waldemar Anderson, both of this community; a sister, Joan (Mrs. Leroy Nelson) of Willmar, Minnesota; as well as several nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends.
