Albin Gotfred Nelson was born December 16, 1899, to Peter and Albertina (Anderson) Nelson in Tyro Township of Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed in Fridhem Lutheran Church. He attended grade school in Tyro Township. He served in the American Expeditionary Forces in France during World War I. After receiving his military discharge, he returned to Clarkfield where he worked as a mechanic for several years. He went to Chicago, worked and attended a Chicago Technical College He was united in marriage to Svea Sjoblom in March, 1929. This union was blessed with six children: Betty (Mrs. Fayette Jensen), Mary (Mrs. Wayne Sampson) and Lorreta (Mrs. Lowell Thompson) all of International Falls, Minnesota, Lorraine (Mrs. Richard Olson) of St. Paul, Minnesota, Charles and Albin, Jr., both of Clarkfield. He returned to Clarkfield in the fall of 1931 and went into the garage and blacksmith business and continued until his retirement in 1971. He passed away at the Clarkfield Community Memorial Hospital on Thursday, December 14, 1972, after being ill the past few months, at the age of 72 years. Albin is survived by his wife, six children, nine grandchildren, one great grandchild, three brothers and two sisters: Edna (Mrs. Arthur Anderson) of Minneapolis, George of Battle Creek, Michigan, Esther (Mrs. John Allan) of Minneapolis, Oscar of Clarkfield, and Joseph of Denver, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents. Albin was a member of the Augustana Lutheran Church of Clarkfield, the American Legion, the Masonic Lodge and served many years with the Clarkfield Fire Department.
