Albertina Nelson was born September 5, 1872, in Sweden. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith in Sweden and confirmed in the Swede Home Lutheran Church by Rev. B.F. Bengston in 1888. She came to America with her parents, Johannes and Anna Anderson, at the age of 12 and the family located in Tyro Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, where she attended public school. She worked in Clarkfield. She was united in marriage to Peter M. Nelson of Tyro Township on December 16, 1895. To this union six children were born: Ednah Friberg of Minneapolis; George S. Nelson of Battle Creek, Michigan, Albin G. Nelson of Clarkfield, Esther Allan of Minneapolis, Oscar A. Nelson of Clarkfield, and Joseph N. Nelson of Denver, Colorado. They purchased a farm four miles west of Clarkfield where they resided until the fall of 1929. Her husband passed away after only ten years of marriage, leaving her with six young children to rear. After moving to town, Mrs. Nelson devoted much of her time to caring for elderly people. She was a charter member of the former Fridhem Church, prior to its consolidation with the Augustana Church of Clarkfield. She was an active member until her health failed about one year ago. About nine months ago she suffered a stroke after which she entered the Clarkfield Nursing Home where she passed away October 24, 1964, at the age of 92 years. She is survived by her children; one sister, Mrs. Louis Friberg of Tyro Township; one brother, Swen Anderson of Minneapolis; fourteen grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren; besides many other relatives and friends.
