Albert L. Martin was born May 8, 1886, to Maynard and Adeline (Royster) Martin at Homer, Iowa. He attended school at Brushy Creek, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith by Rev. A.N. Olson and became a member of the Hazel Run Lutheran Church. Mr. Martin was active in his church and served in many community organizations. He was full of fun and will be remembered for his jolly characteristic. On July 4, 1906, he was united in marriage to Emma Nelson of Duncombe, Iowa. Albert and his bride resided on a farm near Duncombe for a few years, then moved to a farm near Porter, Minnesota, before moving to their farm between Clarkfield and Hazel Run. There they retired from farming and moved to the home they built in Clarkfield. This summer Albert and his wife observed their 65th wedding anniversary with all their children present. To this union nine children were born, namely: Lloyd of Green Isle, Minnesota, Orville, who passed away in infancy, Pauline (Mrs. Olaf Froland) of Starbuck, Minnesota, Wilfred of Hazel Run, Allard of Montevideo, Minnesota, Myron of Hanley Falls, Minnesota, Marvin of Portland, Oregon, Ordell of Bird Island, Minnesota, and Phyllis (Mrs. Orville Hveem) of Rapid City, South Dakota. Albert was in poor health for some time and on Monday evening suffered a cerebral hemorrhage. He lived until Wednesday evening, October 27, 1971, when he quietly departed this life, at the age of 85 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters: Lois (Mrs. Leroy Allbee) and Rhoda Martin; one brother, Oscar; one infant son; one grandson, Charles Martin; one great grandson, Brian Bestland; and one son-in-law, Hartford Kittelson He is survived by his wife, Emma; all eight children, who were all present for the services, along with their mates; as were most all of the twenty grandchildren and twenty-six great grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.
