Obituary

Agnes Mathilda Olson, daughter of Ove and Margarethe Lund Olson, was born October 18, 1900, in Humbolt County, Iowa. She was baptized by Rev. O. T. Farseth. In March of 1901 she made the move from Iowa to Clarkfield, Minnesota. There were 28 relatives who took everything they owned and moved by M and St. L. Railroad to a new life in Tyro Township, Yellow Medicine County. She attended country school in nearby Dist. #29. Rev. O. T. Storaasli confirmed her on May 30, 1915, at the Norwegian Lutheran Church. Agnes graduated from the Lutheran Normal Training in Madison in 1920. She taught Vacation Bible School and release time school in many places. Agnes cared for her parents until they died, also working at the Federated Store in Clarkfield. Following their deaths she attended Lutheran Bible School in Minneapolis and worked at Deaconess Hospital. Her love of books led her to Sioux Falls to work at Aus Bookstore and later at Berges Bookland in Marshall, Minnesota. She and her brother Selmer made a home together in Clarkfield where she lived until February 1994 when she entered the Clarkfield Care Center. She was active in all areas of her church: Sunday School teacher and superintendent, L.D.R., Willing Workers, Choir, ladies aid and prayer groups as well as WTCU and Study Club. Aggie loved Jesus more than anything! She loved her church, all the missionaries, everyone else's children of all ages, a little bit of lunch, flowers, trees, rocks, family get togethers, to drive, to visit, to read and study, to bring something, to sing and play piano, to sew, to pray, to make up programs and hugs. Her heart was on the mission field but she served wherever she was. She is survived by one sister Carolyn Anderson; ten nieces and nephews; and a foster sister, Anna Marie Bickhart. Preceding her in death are her parents; three brothers: Carl, Selmer and Gerhard; and sisters: Alice, Cecelia Hanson and Josie Amdahl; an infant sister; and two nephews. Blessed be her memory among us.
