Agnes Lucretia Hofteig Hoff was born August 16, 1891, at Jasper, Minnesota, to David and Anna (Sigurdson) Ross. She was orphaned at an early age and was taken into the family of her uncle and aunt, the Sigbjorn Hofteigs. She was baptized at the Westerheim Islandic Church in September 1891, by the Rev. Thorkelsson and confirmed May 6, 1906, by Rev. Jonsson. She was organist at the Westerheim Church for several years. After she moved to Normania Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, in 1930, she became a member of the St. Lucas Lutheran Church. She was also a longtime member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Cottonwood. On January 14, 1914, she was married to Jesse Hoff of Hanley Falls, Minnesota, by Rev. Storaasli in Clarkfield, Minnesota. To this union six children were born. They lived on the Hoff home farm in Normania Township most of their married life, with the exception of a few years in Swede Prairie Township and Minneota. In the spring of 1975, due to ill health, Agnes became a resident of the Minneota Manor, Minneota, Minnesota, where she passed away early Monday morning, October 13, 1980, at the age of 89 years. She is survived by three sons: Hubert of Clarkfield, Minnesota, Joe of Cottonwood, Minnesota, and Harvey of Granite Falls, Minnesota; two daughters: Stella (Mrs. Alan Smith) and Shirley (Mrs. David Javens) both of Cottonwood; 25 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Ella Rowberg; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and foster parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse, in 1979; a son, Earl; four foster sisters and two foster brothers. IN MEMORY OF MRS.
