Funeral services were held at the Swede Home Lutheran Church on Wednesday afternoon, August 6, 1969, for Mr. and Mrs. Sigfrid Nelson, who lost their lives in an automobile accident Sunday evening, August 3, 1969. Sigfried and his wife, Agda, were old sweethearts in their native Sweden. He was born February 15, 1886, and she on November 23, 1887, both at "Malmo" Skane, Surege. He came to Clarkfield on May 16, 1911, and worked in Swede Prairie Township. She arrived from Sweden in 1915. The two were wed on December 26, 1915, at the Saby farm home with Heine and Susie Saby as their attendants. He worked in the area until 1918 when the young couple started farming on their own. In 1930, they purchased their farm which they operated till 1947. They then returned to their native Sweden where they spent the winters of 1947 and 1948. His brother, Victor, farmed with them many years and then returned to Sweden. Another brother, Emil, came to America but passed away in Oregon. Friends believe he has another brother in Sweden and that she has a brother, Anton Monson in Sweden. Returning to Clarkfield, they moved into their present home in the fall of 1949 and resided there until the present time. Her health has been failing and she resided in the local nursing home for two months. Since then, the last three months, she has been back at her daily routine in her home. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Nelson, good friends, have assisted them in their daily tasks the past dozen years.
