Obituary

Adeline R. Broughton died on Saturday, January 26, 2008, at Chippewa County-Montevideo Hospital, at the age of 88 years. Adeline R. Broughton was born April 1, 1919, at Nome, North Dakota, to parents Olaf and Mabel (Hagen) Johnson. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Petri Lutheran Church in Nome. She attended school in Nome and graduated from Nome High School in 1937. Adeline and Garfield Broughton were married at Cottonwood, Minnesota, on December 23, 1944. They were the parents of two sons: Dennis and Gene. Garfield and Adeline farmed together. She enjoyed being a homemaker and a farm wife. Adeline enjoyed gardening, crocheting, quilting and bird watching and was an avid Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Gophers fan. She was a member of St. Lucas Lutheran Church and WELCA, as well as the Sunshine Birthday Club. Adeline is survived by her children: Dennis (Linda) Broughton of Minneota, Minnesota, and Gene (Darlene) Broughton of Humboldt, Iowa. She is also survived by grandchildren: Mark (Isabel) Broughton, Scott (Elga) Broughton and Sarah (Earl) Settle; great grandson, Luke Broughton; brother, Wilmor (Luella) Johnson; sisters: Mirand (Bernard) Elling and Audrey (Gordon) Gilbertson; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Garfield; sisters: Neva Johnson, Viola Torbenson, Verona Johnson and Beatrice Stensrud.
