Obituary

Adeline Amelia (Hartfiel) Sommerfeld was born July 3, 1915, to Adolph and Emma (Eckhardt) Hartfiel. She was baptized July 25, 1915, and confirmed in 1923, both at Zion Lutheran Church of Tyro Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. Adeline and Arthur Sommerfeld were married on January 21, 1935, at Zion Lutheran Church. They rented a farm until 1941 when they bought a farm near Boyd, Minnesota. They lived there until February of 1982 when they moved to Montevideo, Minnesota. They were members of St. Paul Lutheran Church. In October of 2001 Adeline moved to Orchard Hills in Dell Rapids, South Dakota, to be near her son, David. She then moved to Terrace Manor Nursing Home in 2008. Adeline was a wonderful wife, mother, loving grandmother and great grandmother. She loved to bake, cook, sew, garden, the outdoors, fishing and her pets. She also loved traveling the world. While living near Boyd, she was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, where she was involved in Bible Class, Ladies Aid and the LWML. She passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2008, at Terrace Manor Nursing Home, Dell Rapids, South Dakota, at the age of 93 years, 3 months and 12 days. She is survived by her children: Opal and Donald Lynne of Bloomington, Minnesota, and David and Margo Sommerfeld of Dell Rapids, South Dakota; four grandchildren; and ten great grandchildren: Jeffrey and Angela Lynne, Christopher, Daniel and Alexander of Colorado, Joy and Scott Swanson, Shelby and Brenna of Arizona, Jonathan Swanson of Minnesota, Nathan and Sarah Sommerfeld, Bryce and Leah of South Dakota, and Mathew and Shelly Sommerfeld, Chase and Kayla of South Dakota, and Ninna and Ib Kjeldsen of Denmark, Rula and Ramon Khawan, Daniel and Anthony of Australia. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Arthur in 1995; granddaughter Michelle Lynne in 1961; three brothers; and nine sisters. Blessed be her memory.
