Victoria Lucille (Isaackson) Varpness

July 23, 1921 ~ July 2, 2017 (age 95) 95 Years Old

Victoria Lucille "Lucille" Varpness, formerly of Cottonwood and Marshall, passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2017 at the age of 95.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 2:00 PM at St. Lucas Lutheran Church of rural Cottonwood. Visitation will be held at St. Lucas one hour prior to services. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Arthritis National Research Foundation (curearthritis.org) or to memorials of the donor's choice.

Lucille was born near Cottonwood, MN on July 23, 1921 to Victor and Louise (Nelson) Isaackson. She attended and graduated from Cottonwood High School in 1939. In 1941 Lucille married Norman F. Varpness at Silo Lutheran Church in Cottonwood. Lucille and Norm lived all their married life on their farm north of Cottonwood. Lucille was a devoted wife and mother. She was a lifetime member of St. Lucas Church where she taught Sunday School and was an active member of WELCA. Lucille's sister, Erma, was a vital part of her life. They wrote letters to each other every week until Erma's death in 2012. Some of Lucille's fondest memories were of winters spent with Norm, Erma, and Erma's husband in Arizona. They enjoyed the weather, happy hour, and being together on daily walks and adventures. In 2007, after years of farming, Norm and Lucille moved to Hill Street Place in Marshall. Norm passed away in 2009, but Lucille kept on going. She made new friends playing bingo & 500, and working in the Thrift Store. In August of 2016, after a short stay in the hospital, Lucille moved to the Minneota Manor where she experienced the love of an incredibly caring and generous staff.

Lucille was extremely proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She adored staying connected with them through letters, cards, and visits and relished in hearing about their lives. They will remember her for her bright smile, big laugh, story telling, peanut butter cookies, lefse, board game and card playing, quick wit and sharp mind, and genuine love of each of them.

Lucille is survived by her daughter, Judy Blaisdell and her children: Kristi (Tom) Ambro and their children: Mary, Amy and Alexander and Kirk (Jean) Blaisdell and their children: Tyler and Kellsey; daughter, Linda (Terry) Dieken and their children: Jodi (Brad) Bofferding and their children: Alexandria and Teal and Jeremy Dieken and his children: Izabella and Samuel; daughter Carol's children: Simone (Dane) Haugen and their children: Tait, Liv and Marit and Nathan (Melinda) Belling and their children: Jacob, Isaac, Trevor, Brandon and Corissa; her foster son, Ron (Gretchen) Noon and their child Brittney; sister-in-law Rosie Varpness, as well as nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Norman; daughter, Carol Belling; sons-in-law: Don Blaisdell and Bernard Belling; sister, Erma; brother, Glen; and foster grandson, Benjamin Noon.

Lucille lived a life of appreciation. Blessed be her memory.
