Stanley Berg

Stanley Berg of Clarkfield died on Monday, September 18, 2017 at the University of Minnesota Fairview in Minneapolis at the age of 67.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at Clarkfield Lutheran Church with Rev. Larry Wegener officiating. 

Visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 from 5-7 PM at Lynner Funeral Home in Clarkfield.  Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

Stanley Glenn Berg was born July 5, 1950 to Wilhelm and Ruth (Vereide) Berg in Clarkfield, MN. He attended Clarkfield High School and graduated from there in 1968.  He also attended the Granite Falls Vo-Tech after high school.  He was united in marriage to Paula Lynne on June 24, 1972 in Clarkfield.

He worked for the city of Granite Falls before beginning to farm in the Clarkfield area in 1979, which he did for more than two decades.  He served as a Yellow Medicine County commissioner for 10 years.  He also worked as a truck driver, in the insurance field, and his final job was as a grain manager for the elevator in Cottonwood. 

Stan’s faith in Christ was his first priority.  He attended Clarkfield Assembly of God Church.  His family was also a huge priority and he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.  He and Paula attended the Minnesota State Fair every year for a streak of 47 years, which ended as his health declined this summer.  He also had a love of stock-car racing and was a diehard follower for many years.  In recent months, saving the Clarkfield school building had become important to him.  

Stan is survived by his wife of 45 years, Paula; sons: Tom (Mari) Berg of Fargo, ND, Dan (Kristin) Berg of Prior Lake, and Jon (Tracy) Berg of Shakopee; six grandchildren: McKenna Berg, Morgan Berg, Mayson Berg, Teagan Berg, Logan Berg, and Addilyn Berg; sisters: Carol (Marlow) Norum, Joyce (Peter) Stovel, Marilyn (Dennis) Murphy, and Margaret (George Sommerfeld); brother, Charles (Rose Mary) Berg; father-in-law, Arden “Snerd” Lynne; brother-in-law, Ross (Teresa) Lynne; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth; his father, Wilhelm; stepmother, Dorothy; and mother-in-law, Ethel Lynne.
