Neil GunlogsonSeptember 8, 1937 ~ October 20, 2017 (age 80)
Neil Gunlogson, of Porter, formerly of Clarkfield died Friday, October 20, 2017 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls at the age of 80.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Bethel Lutheran Church in Porter. Burial will be at the Westerheim Cemetery, rural Minneota. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Neil Gary Gunlogson was born in Clarkfield on September 8, 1937 to Steve and Marjoe (Gudmundson) Gunlogson. He lived on his parents’ farm for 60 years where he helped with farm work, especially milking cows and taking care of their chickens. He then moved to the Noyes family foster home in Porter where he lived for the last 20 years of his life, and during that time enjoyed working at the Canby DAC doing a variety of jobs.
Neil enjoyed any aspect of farming and loved to help and talk with farmers. He also liked to fish and watch Bandwagon on TV. He especially enjoyed his father’s fiddle music. Neil was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Porter, and attended services there regularly. He enjoyed being part of the community in Porter, attending various town functions and activities, and he looked forward to his almost daily visit to the Porter Café. His family especially remembers that Neil loved telling stories and carried forward his father’s tradition of embellishing them. And that he loved meeting people and visiting. There was no such thing as a stranger to Neil.
Neil is survived by his siblings: Peter (LeAnn) Gunlogson, Woodlake, Irene Gunlogson, Minneota, Elin Gunlogson, Porter, and Eric (Kathy)Gunlogson, Fridley; nieces: Angela Gunlogson and Laura (Dean Sickles) Gunlogson; nephew, Bill (Kristi) Gunlogson, and five great nieces and nephews; foster family: Becky and Tom Noyes and children McKenzie(Ethan) Kack, Denver, Shane, Morgan and Gavin Noyes; and foster siblings, Clayton and Denise as well as other extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Marjoe Gunlogson and a brother in infancy, Mark Gunlogson.
