Lorraine Rosella (Nelson) Kaatz was born on December 3rd, 1931 on the family farm in rural Grove City, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Elmer and Ruby (Holmgren) Nelson. She was baptized and confirmed at the Arndahl Lutheran Church. Lorraine attended District #39, a one room school house through the 8th grade. She graduated from the Atwater High School in 1949.
After graduating from high school, she moved to Grove City where she lived with her grandparents. While working at the local cafe, she met her future husband, Marvin. She and Marvin Kaatz were united in marriage on March 24th, 1951 at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Willmar. Lorraine and Marvin moved to Clarkfield after getting married where they lived in several apartments before moving into the house she resided in until her passing.
In 1964, Lorraine started providing child care for many local children. She continued this until she started work at the Clarkfield Care Center in 1975. While at the Care Center, she worked as a nurses aide and later became a medication aide. She enjoyed her job and never considered it "work." She retired from the Care Center in 1989.
In her younger years, Lorraine was active in the Augustana Lutheran Church, the Clarkfield American Legion Auxiliary and the Clarkfield Hospital Auxiliary. Lorraine enjoyed crocheting, reading, watching television, baking & cooking large family meals. She usually prepared more than needed so she would always have leftovers! She especially enjoyed visiting with family and friends.
Lorraine is survived by six children: Martin of Clarkfield, Kermit of Minneapolis, Marie (Bob) Andersen of Waseca, Stanley (Karen) of Clarkfield, Patricia of Peoria, IL and Karl of Clarkfield; four grandchildren: Kyle (Mandy) Kaatz of Villard, Kevin (Katie) Kaatz of Clarkfield, Jennifer Regan of Valparaiso, IN and John Regan who is actively deployed overseas as a U.S Marine; four great-grandchildren: Jude, Kaden, Kaylee, Karter and one great-grandchild due to arrive in November; a sister, Norma Holmgren of Atwater; a brother, Paul (Betty) Nelson of Atwater; a sister-in-law, Iila Nelson of Atwater; and numerous nieces and nephews.
