Doris Marie (Petrick) Stevens

January 30, 1930 ~ November 4, 2017 (age 87) 87 Years Old

Doris Stevens, of Cottonwood, died on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Fieldcrest Assisted Living in Cottonwood at the age of 87. 

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, November 10, 2017 at Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church in Hanley Falls.  Rev. Cody Mills will officiate and interment will be in the East Yellow Medicine Lutheran Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday.  Lynner Funeral Home in Clarkfield assisted with arrangements.

Doris Marie Stevens (Petrick) was born on January 30, 1930 to Christ and Emma (Carstens) Petrick at their home near Danvers, MN in Swift County. She was baptized at home and confirmed at the Redeemers Lutheran Church in Danvers. Doris attended country school at District 83 through the eighth grade and then went to school in Holloway, where she graduated from in 1948.

Doris worked at many places throughout her life.  She started at Tatzkes General Store and the Creamery and Café in Holloway while still in high school.  In 1950, she moved to Montevideo and found new employment at various businesses.  Doris finally settled for a while at Union Oil.  She met Clayton Stevens in 1951 and they married on August 16, 1959.  They had three sons: Danny, Jeffrey, and Robert. Doris and Clayton lived on his parents’ farm west of Hanley Falls until 1990 before relocating to Cottonwood.

Doris was a member of the Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church where she sang in the church choir for over 30 years.  One of her greatest enjoyments in life was going dancing with Clayton.  She  spent a lot of time collecting and selling antiques. She also sold Stanley Home Products for over 30 years.

Doris is survived by her three sons: Danny (Lori), Jeffrey, and Robert (Susan); brother, Don (Jan) Petrick; grandchildren: Amy (Josh) Gens, Chris (Kendra) Stevens, Gena (Brian) Severson,  Luke (Melissa) Stevens, Joshua Stevens, Leah Stevens, Jared Stevens, and Bailey Larson; great-grandchild, Hunter Gens; sister-in-law, Joan; brothers-in-law: Gerald Jagow and Gene (Joyce) Johnson; and several nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers: Merlyn and Clifford; and sister, Lavina.
