Donald LeRoy Zietlow

Donald LeRoy Zietlow of Boyd, Minnesota, was born on May 4, 1938, in Clarkfield, Minnesota, to Alfred and Alice (Kompelien) Zietlow. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Tyro Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. Donald attended country school and later Clarkfield Public school.

Donald was united in marriage to Florence Macht on January 2, 1965, and they made their home in rural Boyd. Their marriage was blessed with four children: Rebecca, James, Mary, and Steven.

Donald loved to play cards with family and friends. Donald was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend.

He served in the United States Army as an automotive maintenance engineer in Korea. Donald farmed for many years and also worked for Larson Tiling Company and then for the Boyd Elevator and Fertilizer Plant Feed Mill for over 20 years before retiring.

Donald passed away at the Johnson Memorial Nursing Home, Dawson, Minnesota, on Friday evening, November 26, 2004, at the age of 66 years, 6 months and 22 days after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Preceding him in death were: his wife Florence; parents; brother Ardine Zietlow; sister Marlyce Miller; brothers-in-law Glen Miller and Erling Odden; niece Diane Miller; and two nephews, Del Roy Zietlow and Chad Bach.

He is survived by his children: Rebecca (and Terry) Johnson of Appleton, Minnnesota, James Zietlow of St. Cloud, Minnesota, Mary (and Rick) Neumann of New Ulm, Minnesota, and Steven Zietlow of Boyd, Minnesota. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Victoria Zietlow, Blake, Jacob and Nicholas Neumann and Mitch, Ashley, Luke, Cody, Alissa, Beau and Justin Johnson; three sisters, Jean (Howard) Ellefson, Louise Odden and Phyllis (Harold) Bach; four brothers, Ordell (Hila Mae) Zietlow, Marvin (Carol) Zietlow, Howard (Sharon) Zietlow and David Zietlow; several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law; nieces; nephews; and cousins.

He will be greatly missed by all of those who loved and adored him.
