Donald Wiegers

Donald Wiegers passed away on October 7, 2017, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 82.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at 1:30 PM at Lynner Funeral Home in Clarkfield, MN.  Interment will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Boyd.

Donald Walter Wiegers was born September 11, 1935 to Walter and Evelyn Wiegers. Donald was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Boyd, MN.    Donald married Cynthia Johnson and with great joy he became a father on April 22, 1966 when their son Shane was born.

Donny was always a very hospitable host when anyone came to visit them. He would quickly become a personal tour guide taking trips to Deadwood and of course Mt. Rushmore as well as all the other sites Rapid City area has to offer. He loved people and he loved entertaining them.

In the early 1960’s one of Don’s many ways of entertaining people included playing the double bass in a band called The Three Aces. His love for cars as well as to entertain people made driving a race cars a match made in heaven.   He had a variety of jobs in his life. Among them was working at Setchell-Carlson located in New Brighton, MN in the 1950’s. Later after having some success in running a television store in Boyd, he decided to try it again in Rapid City, SD where he owned and operated a Magnavox store.

He had a heart for animals. He once raised abandoned raccoons, he found they can bite at times through a leather glove.  But most of all he loved his beloved Rex, a German shepherd that was almost as tall as Donny was!  Rex had almost as big of a heart toward people as Donny did.

Donald is survived by his son Shane; sister Phyllis Leenerts; nieces Patti (Dale) Netland, Becky (Wes) Varpness, Renea (Brian) McCall, Rhonda (John) VanDeWeghe.

He was preceded in death by parents: Walter and Evelyn; sister: Vivian; brother: Lyle; nephew Vernon.
