Donald Schmitz, Sr.

Donald Schmitz Sr., of Boyd, died Sunday,  November 19, 2017 at his home in Boyd at the age of 75.

Memorial services  will be held on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at 10:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church of Boyd with Rev. Lori Wold officiating.   Burial will be in the church cemetery.  

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 24, 2017 at Lynner Funeral Home in Clarkfield from 5-7 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM.  Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Donald Duane Schmitz, Sr. was born in Slayton, Minnesota to John and Della (Oman) Schmitz on June 12, 1942.   He attended school in Heron Lake, MN and Boyd, MN.  On March 7, 1963, Donald was united in marriage to Susan Kiehn in Pierre, SD.  To this union, six children were born.  The family lived in Trenton, Nebraska and St. Paul, Nebraska before they moved to Boyd, MN.  

Donald worked at Moduline Homes from 1972 to 1984, worked for Crosby Construction for four years, and for Ervin Construction for 20 years.  He retired in 2014.

Donald enjoyed being in his garage tinkering, and threshing shows.  He also enjoyed camping, but most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends. 

Donald is survived by his wife, Susan; his children: Melissa (Daryl) Hermanson, Boyd, Timothy (Carin) Schmitz, Milbank, SD, Troy (Becky) Schmitz, Granite Falls, Amanda (DeWayne) Clark, Montevideo, and Donald Schmitz, Jr., Boyd; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters: Delores Barger, Minneapolis, Sally Carey, Montevideo, and Lillian (Gary) Bue, Pine City; sisters-in-law: Mary Schmitz, Montevideo and Wilma Schmitz, Montevideo; as well as other extended family and friends.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Michael; brothers: Leo, Melvin, and LeRoy; sister-in-law, Darlene Schmitz; granddaughter; and great-grandson.
